Interview with new CEO, Urs Stalder

Urs Stalder became the new CEO at SANITIZED AG at the beginning of 2012. He took the time for an exclusive interview about his plans, current developments, and sustainability as a driving force.

Mr. Stalder, what is going to change under your direction at SANITIZED AG?

Continuity, the power of innovation, and safety distinguish SANITIZED AG and its products. We will continue to orient ourselves to these and strengthen our range of products. SANITIZED AG will continue to concentrate on the development and offering of hygiene function for textiles, technical materials, and plastics. Assistance and services will be strengthened; our advisory and supporting role from production to marketing is highly valued by our customers. An important cornerstone of our company has always been our innovative strength, and we will continue to build on this. In the future, the topic of sustainability will become an even greater driving force in the development of new active ingredients and the further development of our current technologies.

A third aspect, which is firmly linked to Sanitized®, is safety. In the more than seventy years since the Sanitized® Quality Seal exists, ecologicalsecurity, workplace safety, and naturally the absolute welfare for the user or consumer have been our primary concerns. The first product on the list of active ingredients approved by OEKO-TEX was a Sanitized® product. The same applies for the bluesign® standard. Here, as well, the first approved product in the list came from Sanitized®. We will definitely continue to fulfill and promote our primary objective of continuously developing and offering innovative and safe products.

You work in textiles and polymers. Where are the greatest challenges, and where is there potential for growth?

Besides pure textile segments, such as clothing and classic household textiles, SANITIZED AG also offers a comprehensive product portfolio of technical materials and plastics. We are convinced that the market will expand around the world for technical textiles and materials as well as for medical articles. The functionality of the products will increase and open up new opportunities for Sanitized® products and services.

Our main focus for plastics is Europe, but we also see a growing need for a hygiene function in other regions and will expand our activities accordingly.

What is the SANITIZED AG research and development department working on now?

There are a large number of very interesting projects, which will create new, market-oriented solutions. For example, we are currently participating in an international hospital study. We will let the results flow into the further development of our Sanitized® MedX 200s series.

Where do you see SANITIZED AG in 10 years?

SANITIZED AG will continue to globally strengthen its leading position as a provider of and brand for hygiene function. Actually, SANITIZED AG is much more an engineering company than a chemistry enterprise. Therefore, Switzerland will remain a good base of operations for us. And yet we will remain present around the world. We opened a showroom in Shanghai in 2010 and gave SGS Shanghai licenses to carry out our microbiological tests to SANITIZED AG standards.

We will strengthen our proximity to our customers operating on a global basis through more local employees as well as service and distribution partners. We are well placed with our distribution partner for textile products, Clariant, since it has subsidiaries in all textile producing countries.

Our aspiration to do business in a sustainable fashion will provide the determination to optimize our existing technologies further and create new antimicrobial products to meet constantly moving challenges. Consumer demand for hygiene function is growing, material protection to retain functionality over the entire lifecycle of the article is growing in importance along with technology applications, and SANITIZED AG can make a significant contribution here.
