Sanitized® briefly explained

Additive
A substance (active ingredient) applied to a fabric or added to a plastic substrate.
Antimicrobial
Against microbes – thus the derivation: microbes are microorganisms, many of which are comprised of only a few cells. They include bacteria, mold and mildew (including yeasts) and algae. Most scientists also include viruses. The colonization by microbes on surfaces leads to material damage, spot formation or odor development because of their metabolic function.

Antimicrobial active ingredients in textiles or polymers prevent the colonization and growth of microbes and thus enable a longer useful life of the products.
Article
It is the final product that the end consumer can buy in stores. For example, treated kitchen utensils or textiles.
Biofilm
Biofilm is perceived as a slimy, unpleasant layer on polymer objects. Cutting boards in the kitchen can be affected. These microorganisms find food, moisture and warmth on polymer surfaces, thus the ideal conditions for reproduction. However, not all bacteria occurring in the biofilm are good for the human body. Furthermore, biofilm has a destructive effect on material.
bluesign®
An independent industry standard that certifies the complete production chain with regard to environmental compatibility and safety. SANITIZED is a bluesign® system partner.
Dry Film Preservation
Protection of paint film after application from algal and fungal growth
Extrusion
In this process technology liquid to viscous polymers are extruded under pressure from a shape-giving opening. The initial materials are granules. Plates, pipes or profiles with a constant diameter are produced during the extrusion process. Thermoplasts are also processed into films by means of this technology.
Foulard
This is a process for dyeing or impregnating textiles. The fabric, the knitwear or the non-woven is conducted through a wide vat in the foulard machine that contains the liquor (color or finish).
Function
Could also be called an additional effect. It is the effect that results from the treatment of an article.
Hygiene function
Through a special treatment with one or more additives the material is equipped with an effect that prevents the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew and hinders the proliferation of dust mites.
Hygienic Paints
Paints which actively restrict the growth of target organisms.
In Can preservation
Protection of consumer products against bacterial and fungal contamination in the wet state
Masterbatch
This concentrate in granular form is used in the production of polymers. Masterbatches impart an additional property such as a hygiene function to the polymer.
Microbes
Microorganisms, e.g., bacteria or fungi, whose metabolism may be accompanied by unpleasant odors.
OEKO-TEX®
Fibers, yarns, and finished textile products must be tested for harmful substances and come from environmentally friendly production sites in order to bear the OEKO-TEX® seal. The independent seal of approval for textiles works with an international standardized criteria catalog, which is regularly modified and expanded.
Pink Stain
Undesirable spots, also called pink stain, which is known from awnings, shower curtains, tarpaulins or technical textiles. Microorganisms produce a by-product, a coloring agent, which is soluble in plasticizer and gives it its characteristic discoloration on PVC surfaces or PVC coatings.
Polymers
Polymers or plastics.
Product
An active ingredient or mixture with which textiles or polymers are treated with a hygiene function.
Sanitized the.house
Manufacturers worldwide are enhancing the value of their products through the Sanitized® hygiene function. During the tour through Sanitized®the.house, the virtual house of SANITIZED AG, a wide range of textile and polymer products treated with Sanitized® can be explored. www.sanitized.house
Sanitized®
The registered trademark is simultaneously a Quality Seal. Only articles that have undergone comprehensive testing may bear the label. The brand is registered in over 100 countries.
Technical Textiles
Intelligent textiles with a specific functionality are indispensable. They are used in medicine, autos and airplanes. In architecture technical textiles are used to protect against sun or rain, also in the home environment in the form of films to protect against rain.
Technology
Lays the foundation for each product and is based on an active ingredient that enables a function. Silane quat is an example of a technology.
Textiles
Fabrics made of natural or synthetic fibers used for apparel, home textiles or household objects.
Treatment
The finishing process by which a function (additional effect) is applied to a material.
