The importance of sustainability is trending in the outdoor industry.
The increasing relevance of sustainability was made clear at the recent OutDoor by ISPO, the new name for Europe’s largest trade fair in this industry.
The slogan “We’re in business to save our home planet” was mounted in neon lettering over the booth belonging to Patagonia, one of the pioneers of the sustainability movement. The alpine sports equipment manufacturer Vaude has found a way to comprehensively control nearly its entire production chain through extensive and sophisticated measures.
But even manufacturers of sports apparel and sports equipment that have previously shown less commitment are now recognizing the pressure building in the market. Initiatives like the Fridays for Future youth climate strikes are creating a new, intensified awareness that’s reaching not only teens, but their parents’ and grandparents’ generations as well.
The entire process chain is being challenged: SANITIZED AG supports manufacturers of performance textiles, T-shirts, pants and underwear who are looking to protect these items from undesirable (body) odors. The additive Sanitized® Mintactiv, developed specially for cotton textiles, exploits the naturally antimicrobial properties of mint. Sanitized® Odoractiv, recipient of the Swiss Technology Award, is biocide-free and protects polyester fabrics in two ways: preventing the development of odors and the adherence of odors and “permastink”.
