Hospital hygiene research: the hospital bed

The fatal effects of a lack of adequate hygiene in hospitals and nursing care facilities are shown by the continued high number of patient infections, including those due to MRSA. Hospital administrators are faced with the challenge of maintaining maximum hygiene standards despite a stressful budget situation.

LINET, the leading European manufacturer of beds for hospitals and nursing care facilities, has integrated the Sanitized® hygiene function into its multicare beds. The spread of germs on the surfaces is thus contained. LINET and Sanitized® have thus made a contribution to the protection of patients – even against germs hazardous to health.

In a research project conducted by the Danish Technological Institute tests were carried out to see how the current cleaning procedures for hospital beds – both manual and automatic – can be improved by an antimicrobial treatment. SANITIZED AG was invited to be a cooperative partner in this project and was able to demonstrate a definite reduction in the number of bacteria. A benefit that confirms an active improvement of hospital hygiene particularly for parts of the patient beds that are difficult to access for standard cleaning.
