What are antimicrobial paints and coatings?

The term ‘Antimicrobial Paint’ refers to any kind of coating that contains an active ingredient that either prevents or reduces microbial growth.

Why is effective antimicrobial protection important?

Microbes can easily breed in dispersion paints and on painted surfaces, resulting in product failure, unattractive discolouration, unpleasant smells or even the presence of illness-causing bacteria. As microbes are able to rapidly proliferate in paints, it is both unreasonable and implausible to eliminate contamination through regular superficial cleaning. Using Sanitized® additives gives your paints built-in protection from microbes and eliminates the need for cleaning once applied.

Sanitized® preservatives are added to paints during the manufacturing process to protect paints and other coatings before and after application from the colonization of microbes. Our experts tailor the active ingredients to your product’s formulation to ensure optimal effectiveness and compatibility.

Where are antimicrobial paints used?

Due to the need for hygiene and durability, the range of uses is large. Some examples include architectural paint, hospital floors, kitchen counters and bathroom walls. Any surface with a paint or coating can benefit from antimicrobial properties, nevertheless, they should be used with caution in order to protect beneficial microbial life.
